Equirab is a rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) that provides passive immunity to individuals exposed to the rabies virus. It is used for the immediate prevention of rabies in patients who have been bitten, scratched, or otherwise exposed to a rabid or potentially rabid animal.

⚠️ Equirab is not a standalone treatment. It must be used alongside a rabies vaccine as part of *Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP).

Equirab is recommended for:

Individuals exposed to potentially rabid dogs, cats, bats, or other animals

Patients who have never been vaccinated for rabies before exposure

Emergency response to Category III exposure (deep wounds, bites, or scratches)

💉 How It Works

Equirab contains rabies-specific antibodies derived from equine plasma (horse-based). These antibodies offer immediate but short-term protection, giving the immune system time to respond to the rabies vaccine.

It neutralizes the rabies virus at the wound site

Prevents the virus from spreading to the central nervous system

Must be administered as soon as possible after exposure, ideally within 24 hours
